PANOLA COUNTY, Miss. (WMC) - Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an incident in Panola County.
Panola County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the scene near the justice center, which is next to the Panola County Airport.
According to District Attorney John Champion, the incident was domestic-related and involved Sheriff Dennis Darby’s daughter.
Champions says her ex-boyfriend came up to the house, but was supposed to come up to the gate at the house.
The gate was locked, so he went around the gate and walked up to the house where he confronted the sheriff’s daughter.
She asked him to leave numerous times and he did not. He wanted to pick up his belongings which she had set out by the gate.
Instead of picking them up and leaving, he continued to walk up the driveway and confronted her.
He continued approaching her at which point she picked up a paintball gun that had previously been in the driveway.
She fired one paintball, hitting him in the eye.
She then left the scene and hid out in the woods for a few minutes. There, she was able to see him pacing back and forth until he finally left.
He then called 911 and she also called 911. He was airlifted to Regional One and underwent eye surgery. He was released early Thursday morning.
The sheriff’s department called MBI in to investigate.
Champion says for the most part, the investigation is complete.
At this point, no charges have been filed.
“I don’t know if any will be .. I’ll have to get with the sheriff’s daughter and to determine whether or not charges will be filed,” said Champion.
