Memphis Zoo mourns death of oldest giraffe, Marilyn

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - It’s a sad day at the Memphis Zoo.

Marilyn, the zoo’s oldest giraffe, has died. She was nearly 26 years old.

Marilyn came to Memphis in 2002. She gave birth to six calves.

The zoo says Marilyn was a favorite on the feeding deck and was well-known for her sweet nature.

According to the World Animal Foundation, giraffes in captivity can live up to 28 years.
