MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Mississippi, has a challenger next year and he’s no stranger to her.
Democrat Mike Espy launched his campaign for U.S. Senate Tuesday.
Espy and Hyde-Smith faced off in a special election for the seat last year that drew national attention. Both hoped to fill the remainder of Sen. Thad Cochran’s term with Hyde-Smith coming out ahead.
Espy told reporters Tuesday that Hyde-Smith puts party over country instead of doing what’s best for Mississippi. He says his campaign will focus on health care, jobs, education and support for Mississippi farmers.
