2019 Holiday Food Drive benefits the Mid-South Food Bank and helps families in need

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - It’s that time of year again! The 2019 Holiday Food Drive is underway now through Dec. 4.

WMC Action News 5 and the Mid-South Food Bank are collecting food for those in need this holiday season, and once again we’re teaming up with Cash Saver to collect the donations.

We’ve been doing this food drive for more than a decade and have had some amazing community partners. This year, you’ll want to find the large red Cash Saver signs before donating. There are three locations where monetary and food donations can be made all month long.

  • Cash Saver in Midtown on Madison
  • The South Third Street location
  • Whitehaven Cash Saver on Elvis Presley Blvd

Over the last decade, the Holiday Food Drive has helped collect more than 2 million pounds of food for families in need during the holidays.

And this food will be distributed across the Mid-South -- the Mid-South Food Bank serves 31 counties in the area.

According to the Mid-South Food bank, 18 percent of the Mid-South is food insecure, meaning they often don’t know where their next meal will come from. That’s more than 400,000 people -- A $1 donation provides three meals, so your donation really does go a long way!

Remember to drop off non-perishable food items all month long starting Wednesday at those three Cash saver locations.
