SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. (WMC) - A current plan to hike the wheel tax to help fund MATA has been sent back to a Shelby County Commission committee for more discussion.

Shelby Co. mayor says proposal for wheel tax hike could solve a major county issue

The full commission was expected to vote on the proposal Monday night to raise it from $50 to $70.

Mayor Lee Harris and Chairman Mark Billingsley met last week and decided to send the proposal back to be updated and fine-tuned.

The vote will be delayed for two weeks.
