MLGW is asking the council for $10 million for 60,000 digital meters.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - MLGW is reporting that an equipment failure at a substation serving the midtown area caused a power outage early Saturday morning.

More than 12,300 customers were affected initially, that number has since dropped to about 2,100.

The cause of the equipment failure is still being investigated.

MLGW officials say there is no estimate on full restoration at this time, but crews are working to resolve the issue.
