TDH identifies 462 new cases of COVID-19; total climbs to more than 20,607 cases, 338 deaths

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. (WMC) - The Tennessee Department of Health is reporting an increase of 462 new cases of COVID-19 across the state.

The state’s total number of cases has jumped to 20,607 including 338 deaths. Two additional deaths have been identified since Sunday.

Statewide, there have been nearly 1,600 hospitalizations and a total of 396,219 people tested.

Davidson and Shelby counties account for more than 9,000 cases of coronavirus in Tennessee.

Health officials have confirmed 4,404 coronavirus cases and 93 deaths across Shelby County.

Sunday, the Shelby County Health Department confirmed 4,309 cases and 93 deaths - that’s 95 new cases in one day.

At this time, 67.5 percent of the cases have recovered from the virus.

More than 64,000 people have been tested for COVID-19 in Shelby County.

SCHD is also monitoring several COVID-19 clusters at different assisted living facilities. More than 300 residents and staff have tested positive for coronavirus with 37 deaths, this does not include the facilities with resolved cases.

The Highlands of Memphis Health and Rehabilitation accounts for the majority of the cases with 66 residents and 25 staff members testing positive for the virus.
