Crowd marches through Midtown Memphis protesting police brutality, racial injustice

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A large crowd gathered at Overton Park Saturday evening to protest police brutality and racial injustice.

At the corner of Madison Avenue and Cooper Street the group took a moment of silence, several people in nearby restaurants came out in support.

Protesters marched in 90-degree weather through the Cooper-Young neighborhood and ventured back to Overton Park.

Most of the protests have taken place in Downtown Memphis. The organizer of this protest shared her reasoning for protesting in Midtown.

“Midtown needs to hear our voices as well like they are no exempt from the racism and the things that are taking place in the city so they just needed to hear it as well,” said LJ Abraham, organizer.

The protest remained peaceful the entire time. Abraham says there won’t be a protest on Sunday.
