TDH reports more than 1,400 new cases of COVID-19, 4 additional deaths

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) -State health officials reported 1,428 new COVID-19 cases Sunday afternoon bringing the state’s total number of cases to 50,140.

The Tennessee Department of Health says 49,768 cases are confirmed and an additional 372 are probable.

Tennessee’s coronavirus death toll is slowly increasing with 637 total deaths across the state.

TDH says there have been 2,860 hospitalizations connected to the virus with 35 new hospitalizations reported since Friday afternoon.

More than 30,000 Tennesseans have recovered.

The Shelby County Health Department reported 380 new cases of COVID-19 Saturday morning with an additional three deaths.

There are now 11,424 cases in Shelby County with 197 deaths reported. More than 7,300 people in the county have recovered.

On Friday, SCHD released new data showing the COVID-19 test positivity rate for Jun 21 through June 27 was 12.7%, an increase from the previous week’s rate of 10.4%.

Due to the increase, county officials have set a countywide mask ordinance in place to help reduce the spread of the virus. The order goes into effect immediately until further notice.

SCHD is also investigating 13 clusters at long-term care facilities across the county with 13 other facilities clusters resolved. So far, 66 residents and staff have died due to the virus in their facilities.
