MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - It’s Memphis for Moussa Cisse!
The former Lausanne star announced Wednesday afternoon he has committed to play for the Penny Hardaway’s Tigers.
The five-star recruit had already narrowed his decision down to five schools, including Georgia, Kentucky, Georgetown, Florida State and Memphis before making it final.
“I would like to thank all the coaches that recruited me and I say I will play for the University of Memphis and the head coach Penny Hardaway.”
With that, Moussa Cisse makes Memphis Tiger Basketball fans recruiting dreams come true. The 6′11 Cisse is a 5-Star recruit who led Lausanne to the State Championship in his junior season, earning Tennessee Mr. Basketball Honors along the way.
He was the nation’s number one recruit for 2021, but reclassified to be eligible this season. Norton Hurd, Cisse’s AAU Coach with Team Thad, told us why Cisse delayed his decision by almost a month.
“I felt like at one point if it would’ve happened three weeks ago originally or a month ago, I think LSU was considered to be in the lead,” said Hurd. “I feel like the more time he pushed it back with the pandemic, and Black Lives Matter situation, I know at one point he didn’t want to do it when it first started with that because of the respect he had for getting the momentum for that, and I think that gave anybody outside of LSU at the time, more time to gain ground and it really worked out for Memphis in this case.”
Cisse averaged almost a triple-double 18 points, 13 rebounds and nine blocked shots a game last season.
