Gas station clerk shot, killed during attempted robbery at MAPCO

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A gas station clerk at a Memphis MAPCO was the victim of an overnight shooting Friday, according to the Memphis Police Department.

The victim was fatally shot inside the business on Whitten Road around 2 a.m. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police say their preliminary investigation determined the shooting stemmed from an attempted robbery.

MAPCO issued a statement Friday morning regarding the incident:

“Last night, a robbery and shooting took place at our store at 2214 Whitten Rd, Memphis. We are deeply saddened to report that our team member, who was on-site at the time, has passed away as a result of injuries sustained during this senseless and tragic crime. The entire MAPCO family is in mourning today, and our hearts and prayers are with our team member’s family and loved ones. We are providing support to those affected, and cooperating fully with the Memphis Police Department as they conduct their investigation.”
