MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Memphis police are investigating a deadly pedestrian crash at the intersection of Winchester Road and Goodlett Street.
The person responsible fled the scene, according to the Memphis Police Department.
But when officers arrived the pedestrian was found dead. He has been identified as 40-year-old Walter Gomez.
MPD also reported that while officers were still on the scene, a gray Ford Focus struck another pedestrian and crashed into a squad car.
The pedestrian chose not to receive medical attention; however, two officers were transported to the hospital in critical condition.
The driver of that Ford Focus was detained.
Police provided yet another update saying the driver who fled the scene was located.
The 16-year-old boy was located and arrested at Emerald and Shirlington. He was charged with driving without a license, financial responsibility, and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
The investigation revealed the pedestrian didn’t cross the street in the protected area.
Memphis Police provided yet another update around 7:20 p.m. stating the passenger, Lidora Penaloza, 56, was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
