BARTLETT, Tenn. (WMC) - The Shelby County Election Commission extended the deadline for voters to drop off their absentee ballot.
The deadline was 3 p.m. but it was changed to 5:45 p.m.
All absentee ballots were to be dropped off at the Bartlett Post Office 2996 Elmore Park Road by Election Day.
Initially, the election commission said absentee ballots were to be dropped off by 3 p.m. to have enough time to get to the election commission before polls close.
This morning very few people were stopping by to drop off absentee ballots.
Those who talked with us said they were dropping off ballots for family and friends who weren’t able to make it out and say every vote counts.
“Every vote counts regardless of which party that you’re voting for and I think this year, and I’ve heard it said before that this is probably the most important election ever,” said voter Carolyn Carol.
“Voting is the one thing that we can do, where we really have a say in what happens and we can help to move things forward in our nation,” said Renee Fluty, another voter.
USPS Tennessee District Manager, Christopher Alexander said: “The Postal Service is implementing extraordinary measures and resources to deliver for Tuesday’s General Election.”
Voters across the state can check on the status of their absentee ballots at the Secretary of State’s website: www.govotetn.com.
