Mid-South priest tests positive for COVID-19

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A Mid-South priest has tested positive for coronavirus following a retreat.

Officials with the Catholic Diocese of Memphis said precautions are being taken and any other priests that came in contact with the patient are being tested.

“The safety and health of our parishioners and our clergy are the utmost importance to the diocese. We’re going to make sure there is a reminder to them on a constant basis what needs to be followed from what local, state, and federal health officials tell us and also what our bishop has developed in the decree.”
Director of Communications, Rick Ouellette

The dioceses currently offers both virtual and in-person masses - where a strict precautionary protocol is enforced.

The priest that tested positive has not been identified at this time.
