MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - On Tuesday night the Shelby County school board voted to extend Superintendent Dr. Joris Ray’s contract -- he’s served as superintendent since 2019 when the board unanimously approved him.
Before the vote, the board read letters written about Ray which were overwhelmingly positive.
“I’m sincerely grateful to have my dedication recognized by the Board and community,” said Dr. Ray. “I consider myself married to this work of educating children and reaffirm my commitment to the heart work of servant leadership in this great District. I’ve had to make some personal and professional sacrifices, but there is no place like home. Home is where the heart is.”
Ray’s new contract will last until the beginning of 2025.
