MPD gives statement after video shows drivers doing doughnuts on I-240

Facebook video shows cars doing doughnuts, blocking interstate in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Memphis Police Department has released a statement after footage showed drivers doing doughnuts on I-240.

MPD said they received reports of cars doing doughnuts and racing near I-240 and Walnut Grove on Saturday night around 10:12 pm. Officers said when they arrived on the scene five minutes later, the area was cleared.

Investigators are currently reviewing footage from the scene. Police added that they will charge anyone they can positively identify.

The drivers face charges like obstructing traffic, reckless driving, disorderly conduct, and other offenses. No arrests have been made at this time.

MPD ended its statement by saying,” The Memphis Police Department will not tolerate criminal acts like this. Reckless stunt driving puts the community in danger and could result in the injury or death of the participants, spectators, and nearby drivers. We encourage anyone who witnesses this type of criminal behavior to call and report it immediately to the proper authorities.”
