Neighbors surprised by drive-by shooting in Southaven

Suspects search in Southaven drive-by shooting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Southaven police are investigating a drive-by shooting in the middle of the day in a seemingly quiet neighborhood. Investigators found 30 shell casings and a victim in a car in the driveway.

“I can’t believe somebody actually got shot right there. I go to school right there, Southaven High. That’s right there,” said Southaven High School student Olivia Brown.

A car window in the driveway was shot out.

“It’s scary. I’ve been here 51 years since the subdivision was started. This is the only time there’s even been anything like this. It’s scary. It really is,” said neighbor Doris McCullar.

McCullar was not at home when the shooting happened. She had to park down the street and walk to her home because the police had the area blocked off.

She used the time to check on neighbors.

“My neighbor across the street is 94 years old and I was scared to death and I didn’t know what had happened,” she said.

Police have not given a motive for the shooting or the identity of the victim. One woman who did not want to be identified couldn’t believe a shooting in the middle of the day happened here.

“I’m pretty shocked.”

Brown is doing in-person classes at Southaven High School. She says school was not in session Monday.

The shooting has shaken her.

“That makes me feel so unsafe. It’s already a new year and we’re starting it off like this,” she said.

Southaven police are looking for a blue Nissan Altima believed to be the suspect’s vehicle. Investigators say the victim is in stable condition. His mother told is he is expected to be OK.
