MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Stax Museum has decided to continue its temporary closure into January due to the current COVID-19 case surge Shelby County is facing.

Stax says it plans to reopen on Saturday, January 23 but could be subject to change due to Shelby County Health Department guidelines.

The health department issued its 16th health directive nearly two weeks ago calling for another safer-at-home order which has been active from Dec. 26 and will continue through Jan. 22.

“While there is not an official “Shelter in Place” order at this time, we have made this decision out of concern for the safety of our staff, vendors, volunteers, and guests, and to do our part in stopping the rapid spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus,” wrote Stax officials in their update on reopening.
