TENNESSEE (GRAY TV/WMC) - A group of Republicans, allied with President Donald Trump, pledged to object when Congress meets to certify the electoral college results.
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) was the first to announce his intentions last week, citing claims of widespread voter fraud.
When asked about the election results, Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) said, “We had activists come in and change the rules of the election mid-game. These weren’t state legislators, these were activist judges, these were executive branch commission officials.”
Hagerty added, “This is the domain of state legislators, this needs to be cleaned up. And that’s why we’re proposing a commission to do just that.”
Despite President Trump’s repeated claims of voter fraud, election officials and his own former attorney general have said there were no problems on a scale that would change the outcome. All the states have certified their results as fair and accurate, by Republican and Democratic officials alike.
