JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Stop the Steal protesters were also at the Mississippi State Capitol on Wednesday.
Carrying signs with messages of ‘Stop the Steal’ and ‘Let Mississippi Vote,’ protesters say they are supporting President Trump.
The group also asked for signatures on petitions asking for a vote on Mississippi’s flag. Some of them carrying the flag with the confederate emblem.
They listened to a message from Trump and say they will continue to make their voices heard.
Holly Scanlon, a Let Mississippi Vote protester, said, “This is not a racial issue. It’s not black, white, yellow, red. This is a Mississippi issue. We can’t let them have our voice because if we give them our voice we enslave ourself to our government. This is our government. They work for us. They work for us. We don’t work for them.”
Scanlon also said, “My president feels like that this election has been totally stolen from him and that the people of our nation need to stand up and do what’s right, and lawsuits need to be filed and we need to stand up for our president. And that’s what we’re here to do today.”
While the protesters were at the State Capitol, some of them signed a petition asking for a vote on the Mississippi flag.
“I’m out here essentially to display my discontent with the state of affairs in America. Each and every one of our fundamental Liberties and freedoms are under attack,” said Mutt Allen.
Allen also expressed his dissatisfaction with the American government and current state of the country. He said he has come to the Mississippi Capitol Building almost every day since Election day in November.
“I think people need to wake up and realize that the more that they lay down and stay asleep the more that is going to continue to happen,” said Allen.
Clay Groom also protesting today. “We’re in a constitutional crisis. That’s all there is to it,” he said.
He and Allen agree that the riots in Washington are beyond what they call the injustices of the election process.
“This is all about evil versus good. It’s all about saving our country. If we want to become like the rest of the world, a third world country without rights, a government stepping on you all the time, pushing you down, mandating that mask...” said Groom.
“When you look at the reality of things that, you know, this is bigger than Donald Trump. It’s bigger than Joe Biden. The election is just a part of the the scheme to disrupt everything that we love in America and to put people in a state of division and confusion towards one another,” said Allen.
