MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - It’s back to work for the Memphis Grizzlies Thursday night as they get set to play back-to-back at FedExForum.
First up, the Cleveland Cavaliers where, both teams, their coaching staff, and the officials, delayed the tip-off by heading to the sidelines just before the start. Their purpose? Call attention to the unrest that’s going on in the country right now by linking arms and taking a knee in a show of solidarity for America.
No Collin Sexton for the Cavs, and a whole bunch of players out for the Grizzlies due to injury, but Cedi Osman celebrating his chance for some run with Cleveland. He lights the lamp from three not once, but twice to give the Cavs an early lead -16 for Osman.
The Cavs hit 13 three-pointers on the night. But, the Griz start working the comeback. Using defense to set up the offense with Brandon Clarke as the recipient of several steals and deflections for easy fast-break buckets, fourteen for BC. Jonas Valanciunas works the glass like he has all season, his eighth straight double-double, 17pts, and ten boards.
This one closes throughout and goes to the wire. Cavs get the big game from their big man, Andre Drummond. Twenty-two points, 15 rebounds three assists for Andre as the Grizzlies just can’t get over the Hump in what’s become a grit and grind contest each time out.
Cavaliers eke out the win late. Final score, 94-90. The Grizzlies, now 2-6, get back right to work Friday night hosting the Brooklyn Nets at FedExForum.
