4 suspects in custody in connection with string of Panola County church burglaries, 4 more sought

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Panola County investigators have identified eight suspects in a string of church burglaries WMC first reported Thursday.

Four suspects are in custody, according to the sheriff’s office.

Detectives in Panola County say crooks have been hitting churches in the Batesville area, getting away with thousands of dollars worth of musical equipment, heaters, even full-size stoves.

Pastor Darin Ellis of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church told WMC’s Janice Broach the burglars actually turned the gas off the heaters before stealing them, making him believe the thieves knew exactly what they were doing.
