Former Memphis officer pleads not guilty for kidnapping, murder, tampering with evidence charges

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A former Memphis police officer charged with kidnapping and killing a man while on duty pleaded not guilty while in court Thursday morning.

Attorney William Massey’s daughter was there to represent Patric Ferguson on behalf of the Massey firm.

Furgeson was charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, and tampering with evidence.

Police said Ferguson admitted to kidnapping Robert Howard by forcing him into the back of his patrol car while he was on duty.

They said Ferguson then drove several blocks away to Frayser Boulevard and Denver Street where he shot Howard.

Investigators said they discovered Howard’s body near the Wolf River bridge.

Right now, Furgeson is being held without bond.
