MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The pandemic has brought food insecurity to new heights nationally, and here at home the Mid-South Food Bank has been hard at work making sure families are fed.

To help with the efforts, Kroger made a $150,000 donation to the food bank.

Kroger says the special donation is in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Mid-South Food Bank president and CEO Cathy Pope says donations like this are crucial when it comes to serving the community.

“Prior to the pandemic we were serving about 1.5 million pounds a month,” said Pope. “We’ve been doing upwards of 5.5. million or 6 million a month. So we’ve really been able to get food out of the door because of donations like this.”
