MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A 15-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital early Friday morning after a shooting, and now he’s facing charges in connection with the incident.
Police responded to the shooting on Winchester just west of I-55. The injured teen told officers he was at an apartment complex when he heard gunshots. He said he was shot in the back and walked to the gas station for help.
Police reviewed gas station surveillance video, which showed the teen and two others enter the store and ask the clerk to call for help. The other two took off and left the teen behind.
Police say around the same time there was a report of gunshots at Memory Lane Hotel on Elvis Presley. Surveillance video at the hotel showed three people in dark clothing, including the teen, arrive at the hotel and enter a room before running out seconds later.
Police say the surveillance video showed the teen falling on the ground and getting back up with the other two as they ran north on Elvis Presley.
Two people in the next room told police the heard gunshots and saw bullet holes in the walls. Police recovered a shell casing from the hotel room.
One witness told police she knew the suspects and let them in the room. Police say the teen later said his sister let them in the room where they asked for a WiFi box and started shooting.
The teen is now charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.
