Businesses and schools close as winter weather hits the Mid-South

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Dozens of schools and businesses are closed Thursday as winter weather reaches the Mid-South.

Waste Pro suspended solid waste collection Thursday and said Friday’s routes will be delayed by a day, weather permitting.

Meals at all City of Memphis community centers are suspended along with meals at the following senior centers: McWherter, Raleigh Frayser and J.K. Lewis.

MATA services are delayed for several routes. Call (901) 274-MATA for updates and information.

A number of court systems throughout the Mid-South are also closed, including courts in Shelby County. If you have a hearing, contact the court to confirm if proceedings are still scheduled.

The Shelby County Health Department has closed all facilities. The health department’s Thursday COVID-19 briefing is canceled and will resume next week.

The Shelby County Clerk’s Office has closed all six locations and appointments will be rescheduled.

The Memphis Zoo and Memphis Botanic Garden are also closed Thursday.
