JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - The Memphis VA Medical Center made the trip up I-555 to Jonesboro’s medical center, to provide vaccines to veterans in the most accessible way possible.

The clinic offered the one-dose, Johnson & Johnson version of the vaccine, adding to the convenience afforded to veterans who didn’t have to travel to Memphis.

”We have good data on where folks have been vaccinated and not vaccinated in our area,” said Kevin Freeman, the chief of Pharmacy Services with Memphis’ VAMC. “So, we targeted Jonesboro as an area where we want to come. It’s a little further out from Memphis, so we had good interest.”

Freeman said that they brought 200 doses to the clinic, that lasted from 8 a.m. to noon, but only half was used as 100 veterans were vaccinated Thursday.

Jonesboro’s VA Outpatient Clinic manager, Julie Brown, applauded veterans that attended, saying they were well researched and thankful for the opportunity to receive the vaccine.

“They are very thankful for it,” Brown said. “They are so glad because we service all age groups of veterans here, and sometimes, it’s hard for our veterans to get to Memphis to get the vaccine.”

For those who missed the opportunity to receive the vaccine, there will be another shot as Freeman confirmed that there will be another vaccine clinic soon.
