MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - This year’s Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest is sold out.

Event officials expected a sell out this year because of the reduced capacity due to the COVID-10 pandemic.

“The best barbecue in the country is right here in Memphis, Tennessee,” said Ernie Mellor, owner and pit master of Hog Wild BBQ. “This is the world championship contest that we are at right now. COVID or no COVID, we are here to have a good time and put some of the best meat on the table across the country and around the world.”

It is still a welcome site to see grills going again at Tome Lee Park. The awards ceremony is set for Saturday at 7 p.m.
