RIPLEY, MS (WMC-TV) - Straight line winds pushed down and snapped apart power lines all over the west side of Ripley, Mississippi Saturday.

Ripley Police Chief Scott White said despite the damage, there were no apparent injuries.

"As far as we can tell, we don't have any injuries," White said.  "We do have some trees across trailers, car ports collapsed, roofs off businesses, gas lines busted from trees pulling them to the ground."

The winds ripped off the roof of furniture business Trade Day Mall.

"I knew it was hitting because of the wind and the trees and everything," said the owner of Trade Day Mall.  "Then I got the phone call, it's hit your building.  I almost started crying."

A large tree ripped out a gas line, forcing a neighborhood to be evacuated.

"They're trying to get turned off," White said.

The damage happened in a matter of seconds, but it will take Ripley much longer to recover.
