(WMC-TV) - A Memphis community is concerned after a man was found dead in a blood-covered basement.
Police say the 26-year-old was next to a saw inside a house at 4811 East Shore Drive in the Coro Lake community.
Homicide investigators were called to the scene, but police have yet to say whether this was a murder or an accident.
In addition to mentoring gang members in Frayser, Joe Hunter heads up the Coro Lake neighborhood patrol in Southwest Memphis.
Hunter came upon te uncommon site while on patrol Thursday afternoon.
"Usually I'm watching squirrels and ducks, and I see all these police cars. So, it really saddens me that it had to happen," he said.
Memphis police were called to the house after neighbors reportedly found a man's body in the basement.
"When they came in they saw blood and just followed the trail of blood and he was down in the basement. So, that is so tragic," said neighbor Littleton Prince.
Neighbors say the victim lived in the house, owned by his parents, for roughly the past eight months. They say he was a nice young man.
Many immediately thought foul play when they heard about the bloody scene inside, but Memphis police would only say there was a death investigation underway.
The man's body was taken to the regional forensics center. Police say they should have more information Friday morning.
