MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Things got rough at Barbie's Sports Bar in East Memphis after a fight broke out over who sang karaoke better.
Investigators say a man named "Peg Leg" stabbed another man on the neck Thursday night. His wife was encouraging a woman, who felt she could sing better than Peg Leg's group. That's when the fighting commenced.
"I was up there singing karaoke, me and [my friend] Possum. We sing karaoke, and we do this song called 'Picture,'" witness Linda Wyman said.
Possum and Wyman weren't the only people singing "Picture."
Wyman says a group of people didn't sing it very well, and that group heckled the other singers including Possum and herself.
Wyman's friend tried to support her while she sang. She says the hecklers didn't like that.
"Next thing you know, I see a fight going on. I was still trying to sing, and I was telling my husband at the time, Richard, to stay out of it," Wyman said.
She saw her supportive friend's husband in middle of the brawl.
"He was hollering, 'they stabbed me, they stabbed me', and he had blood coming," Wyman said. "They were all drunk."
The victim, Mike McKlemurry, was taken to Regional Medical Center by ambulance. After recovering, he identified Adams from a line up.
James "Peg Leg" Adams is charged with attempted first-degree murder.
