MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - An accident that happened between four vehicles at the intersection of Poplar Avenue and East Parkway on Friday morning ended in two arrests.
According to crash investigators, the driver of a GMC Yukon was heading northbound on East Parkway when it rear-ended a Ford Mustang at a stop light. The Yukon then hit the back of a Pontiac Grand Prix that was also stopped at the light. The Mustang was pushed into a Chevrolet Tahoe.
After doing damage to three other cars, the Yukon jumped the curb and hit a utility pole. The driver, 41-year-old Michael Newson, got out of the vehicle and ran away. He was captured by police at Poplar Avenue and Cooper Street and brought back to the scene of the accident.
Newson was arrested and charged with failure to exercise due care, driving while license was suspended, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury or death, and financial responsibility.
The driver of the Mustang was arrested for not having a valid driver's license and financial responsibility.
Two passengers in the Mustang were taken to the hospital for injuries. One person was in non-critical condition, while the other was listed as critical. The driver of the Tahoe and a passenger were also taken to hospitals in non-critical condition.
