MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis police officers were called to Wolfchase Galleria on Friday night.
According to Memphis Police Department, early reports said shots were fired inside the mall. However, when officers arrived, mall security said no shots were fired.
MPD says a large group of teenagers were creating a disturbance inside the mall and officers asked for crowd control assistance. No one was hurt during the disturbance.
Shoppers said they ran for cover after two groups of young people clashed in the food court.
One WMC Action News 5 employee was inside Dillard's when she said that police locked down the store and refused to let anyone leave.
Shoppers who witnessed the melee commended mall security merchants for their quick response.
"It was like a bunch of officers walking behind me, so I think they know stuff was getting plotted, so they were ready." said shopper Keianna Oliver. "They were shutting down all the stores, closing gates, even with people in the store, they were closing gates."
Even after the mall closed, police remained on the scene.
On Saturday afternoon, Wolfchase Galleria General Manager Brent Gardner released the following statement:
