MEMPHIS, TN (AP) - Prosecutors charged a 19-year-old with manslaughter early Saturday, less than 24 hours after a shooting in Orange Mound killed 17-year-old Cyle Canada.

Two others were injured in the shooting that happened west of Melrose High School on Friday afternoon. A 15-year-old was released from the hospital. Eighteen-year-old Melvin Wilkins has been upgraded to good condition.

Corey Groves is charged with voluntary manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault.

Many neighbors heard the shots Friday. A few Melrose High School students saw it happen.

"I just heard like five or six gunshots. I was standing in the kitchen and when I came outside and got in the car, the little boys were lying on the ground," said a neighbor.

Witnesses say two of the victims are Melrose students who were walking home from school when another group of people approached them and began firing shots.

"It's a sad situation right now," said Torsha Johnson, who is a friend of Canada's family. She says Canada was a bright student who excelled in school. "It's no way he should have lost his life."

Within minutes of the shooting, an outpouring of condolences flooded social media with the hashtag #RIPCYLE.

Groves is due in court on January 12.
