MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Teens and adults now face charges after a large brawl broke out at Whitehaven High School on Friday night after a basketball game.
According to police, nearly 50 people were involved, hitting punching and kicking when officers began arresting people.
"Its kind of surprising that something like that escalated," said Marcus Johnson.
Johnson lives across the street from the school and says though he wasn't at the game Friday night, two of his family members were.
"So, I guess its always a possibility that kind of stuff can happen. But its just kind of weird that people would want to do that as big as the police presence usually is over in that area."
WMC Chopper 5 was over the scene as officers took people into custody at the school. At least two juveniles were among those arrested.
Three adults were arrested following the fight: Brandon Moncrief, Deadrick Simmons, and Rashad Thompson.
Johnson describes brawl as unusual for Whitehaven High.
"They take care of business they don't you know start a whole lot of trouble, so I mean maybe its just a one time thing," Johnson added.
