Bass Pro Shops schedules job fair to hire more than 600 positions

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Bass Pro Shops announced plans to host a job fair to fill more than 600 full-time and part-time positions for the mega-store opening in May 2015.

If you're interested one of these positions, you may apply in person at Memphis Cook Convention Center, south exhibit hall, 255 N. Main Street from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. from Monday, Feb. 2 through Wednesday, Feb. 4. You must be at least 18 years old to apply.

Social media is in a frenzy over the job openings. Experts say filling hundreds of jobs could be a tipping point in the fight against poverty in Memphis.

"That's new money pumping into our economy here in Memphis every year," said Mark Herbison, Sr. Vice President of Economic Development of Memphis Chamber of Commerce.

Several different positions are available including: cashiers, greeters, stockers, marine technicians, boat riggers, boat detailers, boat sales consultants, servers, hosts/hostesses, bussers, bartenders, dishwashers, line cooks, prep staff, bowling technicians, concierge, houseman, front desk, night audit, bell service, massage therapist, aesthetician and valet attendants.

"We're excited to meet with members of the community, particularly individuals who are hard-working, dedicated and enthusiastic about this iconic project and our vision to celebrate the outdoors here in Memphis," said David Hagel, store manager of Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid.

"A lot of people are struggling here. I see a lot of that going on. I think more jobs would encourage people to get out and do better with themselves, noted Candyce Finney.
