MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is looking to expand. The hospital has been around for more than 50 years and now the crown jewel of the Bluff City is planning to help even more children.
The expansion is expected to cost millions of dollars and lead to a significant increase in staff, patients, and facilities.
"That's a blessing," Pearl Duncan said. "It's a blessing. It's great that they are expanding."
We talked with St. Jude representatives on Tuesday and they would only say the hospital is developing its new six-year strategic plan.
They maintained it's premature to provide any details on that plan.
Meanwhile, supporters of St. Jude say expanding will be a good thing for both the hospital and the families in need.
According to hospital officials, the expansion plan will be presented to St. Jude's board of governors later this spring.
Mid-southerners say they are praying the plan gets approved.
"I think it's great what they are doing," Duncan said. "How they are helping all the families, and they don't bill anybody. I think that's good."
