MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Police arrested a man and charged him with the murder of a woman killed inside her Memphis apartment.
A witness at the scene of the shooting helped police solve the murder of a woman family and friends say was not the intended target.
Kobie Kelly, 31, is charged with first-degree murder.
Investigators say Kelly shot and killed 53-year-old Vicky McGee inside her home in 200 block of Lucy Avenue in South Memphis last Wednesday morning.
McGee's family says she was a mother, a grandmother, and a friend to everyone she met.
According to the affidavit, a witness said they saw Kelly standing in the street shooting into McGee's second story apartment.
Kelly was identified as the suspected gunman through a photo lineup.
Witnesses explained that a man, who robbed a home nearby, ran to McGee's house as a safe haven.
Because McGee knew him, she opened the door. Kelly is believed to have been chasing the man.
Police say Kelly shot through McGee's window, hitting her and leaving several bullet holes in the living room window.
Police say Kelly denied shooting McGee. He has an extensive criminal history that includes aggravated assault in 2009.
Kelly is being held in the Shelby County Jail without bond and faces a judge Tuesday.
