MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A Memphis man sits in jail accused of walking up to a woman, making vulgar comments, and grabbing then flashing her.
The incident was reported on Thursday outside of the Family Dollar store on Poplar Avenue, near the Benjamin Hooks Library.
Police say the woman walked outside to use the phone. When she hung up, Floyd Thomas approached her and told her he was going to do vulgar things to her.
He then stepped in front of her and grabbed her breast. The woman told police that she knocked his hand away and threatened to call police.
She said Thomas then flashed her and walked to the gas station next door. He was arrested a short time later but refused to give a statement to police.
Many Family Dollar customers were shocked to hear what happened.
"It could've been your grandmother or your mother or your sister," Kenny Young said.
Mona Blake shops at the Family Dollar store often. She said she's now taking more precautions.
"It just lets you know now that you need to really check your surroundings, look behind you," Blake said.
Other customers say they commend the victim for immediately calling police.
Police arrived soon enough for the victim to point out Thomas.
Thomas is charged with indecent exposure and sexual battery. He went before a judge Friday.
The woman was not hurt in the incident.
