Collierville High School teacher dies

COLLIERVILLE, TN (WMC) - Collierville High School lost a teacher and a coach Sunday when Robbie Simmons died.

Simmons was the cross county coach for the school as well as a teacher.

Collierville High's website states that Simmons was in his 14th year as a cross country coach for boys and girls. He is a West Memphis, Arkansas, native. He was an Arkansas cross country champion and state record holder.

Simmons was an All-American at Ouachita Baptist University. He won numerous regional championships as a coach.

Collierville Schools posted a statement on their Facebook page:

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of CHS teacher Robbie Simmons who died this weekend. He will be greatly missed by his family, his students, the CHS faculty and staff, and the Collierville Schools community. Grief counselors will be available for students and staff when we return from fall break.

Many students and parents chimed in on the post about his influence as a psychology teacher as well as a coach.

Details surrounding Simmons' death have not been released.
