Victims identified in fatal Highway 14 crash

Two killed in 5-car crash; Hwy 14 closed

SHELBY COUNTY, TN (WMC) - Highway 14 was closed after two people died in a crash involving five vehicles.

Officials said the driver of a pickup truck was trying to pass on a two lane road going south and crossed into the northbound lane. He hit a white GMC van, Honda Civic, and a white GMC work truck. A BMW also slid into the crash.

Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed that 42-year-old Shannon Shay and 34-year-old Angela Walton were killed in the crash.

Tennessee Highway Patrol said in addition to the two deaths, four people were injured in the crash.

One person was flown to the Regional Medical Center and others were trapped as a result of the crash. Family and witnesses stood on the side of the road and waited.

People who drive on the two lane portion of Highway 14 said it is a dangerous road.

"It's just a dangerous highway. I mean, it's that they need to four lane it. All the way down everybody coming up and down it passing. Drunk drivers. It's a bad deal," neighbor Bubba Watkins said.

In the exclusive Chopper 5 video, you can see the roof had to be cut off the black car, two trucks collided, another black car was in the middle of the road and a white van was off the road in a ditch.

Highway 14 was shut down over a three mile stretch from 385 to Millington-Arlington Road.
