MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - One person has been shot and killed in the 1400 block of Decatur Street.
Police found one person with a gunshot wound upon arriving and later pronounced them dead at the scene. The victim's family identified him as 45-year-old Frederick Robinson. They said he was an innocent bystander shot by a stray bullet.
"Been knowing him all his life. A good person; one with great personality when it comes to loving people. He was a nice person," Reverend Ernest Gillespie III, Robinson's uncle, said.
Relatives said Robinson was sitting in a chair in his front yard talking with friends when a stray bullet struck and killed him.
The husband, father and grandfather is described as someone who did not bother anyone.
"They own a daycare. Just a pleasant person," Gillespie said.
Robinson's family hugged and cried while they tried to understand how something so awful could happen. Witnesses said someone got into a fight down the street and that is where the shooting started.
Police have identified three females and two males as suspects. The suspects are believed to be in a white Chrysler convertible.
The people who live in this New Chicago neighborhood said it has changed.
One resident, who did not want to be identified, has lived just down the street from the Robinsons for 50 years. She said she is prepared.
"It's just so strange down here," the woman said. "I got a dog and I got a gun and I will use it, but hope I don't have to use it."
One relative said police have a solid lead since a suspect dropped a phone. That phone is now with police.
