MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - With three Shelby County Schools joining iZone and four others being taken over by the Achievement School District, emotions are high across the entire district.
Douglas High School, Mitchell High School and Westwood High School are joining iZone for the 2016-2017 school year.
Caldwell Guthrie Elementary, Hillcrest High and Kirby and Raleigh Egypt Middle Schools have been taken over by the Achievement School District.
Schools joining iZone or being taken over by the state impact more than just students. It impacts parents as well.
Tuesday night, students sounded off about the changes. On Wednesday, a group of parents addressed it as well.
Shelby County School parents in support of the change gathered on Wednesday.
"It's not a competition between ASD or the iZone," said Mendell Grinter, a LIFT supporter.
Many supporters of change said ASD or iZone are necessary to improve the schools in the bottom five percent.
"I'm not into the politics of who is right and who is wrong. I'm into the education of my five year old grandson," Glen Hancox said.
But at Tuesday night's Shelby County School Board meeting, disappointed students and parents shared their feelings about the recent ASD takeovers. The board also called for a moratorium on takeovers by the state.
The school board members said they want to see more consistent proof that ASD school takeovers actually help student performance.
