MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Teddy bears, flowers, candles, and balloons now decorate the outside of the apartment where gunshots rang out just before 4 a.m. Sunday, leaving a pregnant woman dead and her killer on the run.
Memphis police identified the two people killed in the shooting in the 4700 block of Haven Court.
Joe Fifer, 22, and Tamara Davis, 26, were pronounced dead on the scene.
Police said both Davis and Fifer suffered from gunshot wounds.
Davis was pregnant at the time of her death. Her baby did not survive.
"A human life can be taken so fast, it's unreal," Tony Ford, victim's friend, said.
Investigators said the suspect knocked on the back of the residence at Tulane Apartments. When Fifer answered the door, someone shot him and his pregnant girlfriend.
"I don't want to move forward until the killer is caught," Joe Fifer's cousin said.
Fifer's cousin, who did not want their name used because they were afraid for their safety, said they had one child.
Neighbors said Davis had three small children. All of them now are forced to grieve.
Fifer's cousin said they have a message for the killer.
"You wrong. You wrong. He didn't deserve that," the cousin said.
As police work to find out what caused the shooting, Tony Ford, a friend of Joe Fifer, is still trying to make sense of the tragedy.
"I couldn't imagine if that was some of my family," Ford said. "That's totally wrong."
This is an ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made.
