MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A postal employee was assaulted while working their route.
Memphis Police said a male suspect threw acid on the female worker at Fortner and Socoro Cove.
The worker then drove herself to Methodist North for treatment for chemical burns, according to police.
"We actually give her Christmas gifts every year," Sam Sanders, neighbor, said
Neighbors on Socoro, like Sanders, are concerned.
"It's unusual for this street. It's pretty quiet over here," Sanders said.
Postal inspectors said between 1 and 2 p.m., a man assaulted the female mail carrier on her normal route.
White powder is left in the area where fire crews and crime scene units investigated.
"We do not know who he is. We are attempting to locate him," Susan Link, postal inspector, said.
For neighbors like Sanders, he is not only concerned about the mail carrier, but also for his own safety.
"Just have to be aware, be careful, looking out," Sanders said.
There is a $25,000 reward being offered for any information that helps lead to the arrest of the individual responsible for this crime.
