MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis Police Department responded to a shots fired call in the Planned Parenthood parking lot in the 2400 block of Poplar Avenue. Officers spent hours searching the building for bullet holes.

Police on the scene said a male in a green colored Altima pulled into the parking lot and fired at least 10 shots. A woman came out of the building, got into the man's car, and then they took off.

It is unclear who or what the intended target was and the building does not appear to have been shot. No injuries have been reported.

It was raining at the time shots were fired, otherwise there may have also been protesters on the sidewalk outside the clinic who could have been injured.

Officers checked the building, as well as canvassed the parking lot of a convenience store next door, for damage since that was the direction shots were fired. Customers said someone pumping gas could have easily been injured.

"It surprises me, but, you know the way things are going on right now, you never know- happens everywhere so you can't count no place out," Nick Oliver said.

The Memphis clinic has armed private security as a precaution, given the potential threat against women's healthcare providers. Just last fall three people were killed during an ambush at a Planned Parenthood Clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Planned Parenthood issued a statement regarding the incident.

Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region (PPGMR) health center and office were the site of a possible shooting between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2016. There are no casualties or injuries as a result of this activity. At this time PPGMR has no reason to believe that our health center, our patients, or our staff were the intended target. The investigation is ongoing and PPGMR is cooperating fully with the Memphis Police Department.
