MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis police officers were called to the Memphis International Airport to assist a man who was shot.
Memphis Police Department said they found a man at the airport's baggage claim with a gunshot wound.
"I guess I'm a little surprised to see it coming off the plane. Down here at the baggage claim, there's a crime scene," traveler Drew Long said.
MPD believes the man was shot at the Mapco gas station on Airways Road. After being shot, he drove to the lower level of the airport to report that he had been shot.
"It's really unfortunate. Not such good news," traveler Devin Jones said. "No, it's not really what Memphis is about. I'm sure they do not want to come in and see that. So, that's not a great start to the weekend."
MPD said it does not have any suspect information available. It's unclear how a black SUV is connected to the crime, but police have been keeping a very close eye on one.
The victim was taken to Regional One in non-critical condition.
The Memphis International Airport said all operations will return to normal and there will be no changes on this busy weekend.
