Overton Square to host 'Stars and Stripes' 5k and block party

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Here's your chance to participate in some good ole American fun!

The Stars & Stripes 5K and block party will be in town on Saturday, July 2. Admission is free!

Overton Square will be the place to be as over 2,000 runners will be racing to celebrate Independence Day. Those who aren't as athletic can meet the runners at the finish line for a Salute to Local Heroes block party. The party will salute members of the military, fire, law enforcement, and first responders.

Additional activities will be present,such as live music on the Madison Ave. main stage, special vendor booths, and even child-friendly activities!

Those with a runner's bib will receive a 20% discount on all food and drink at Delta Groove Yoga!

Patriotism will be proudly displayed; the National Anthem will be performed by the Memphis Police Quartet, and the drill team will present the colors.

There will also be mounted police throughout the block party.

People wanting to race will have to register in advance by signing up online at https://memphisstarsandstripes.racesonline.com/, and it will begin at 7 p.m.
