MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - During a robbery, two robbers shot their victim, but the victim returned fire killing one of the robbers.
According to the police report, just before 11:30 p.m. a witness said two men robbed a man and shot him near Ajanders Drive. The suspects then ran away on Lake Park Road.
When officers arrived on Ajanders Drive, they found the robbery victim, a 32-year-old man, suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim said two men approached him in his driveway and attacked him from behind.
The suspects took out a gun and the three fought over the weapon. The victim was shot, but he was also able to shoot one of the suspects. The suspects ran away, firing shots.
Officers found one of the suspects, a 31-year-old man, unresponsive on Lake Park Road. He was pronounced dead on the scene. A gun was found near him.
The second suspect got into a car and left before officers got to the scene. He is still on the run.
"The first thing I did was call the police," Angelique Johnson, neighbor, said.
Johnson acted quickly when she heard the gunshots.
"When I heard the gunshots, I just took my kids and ran to the back," Johnson said.
She later found out that her neighbor, according to police, was robbed, attacked and even shot on Sunday.
"That's our neighbor and we look after each other," she said. "It's not right that you take from people because people work hard for their money."
Neighbors said the victim is a good man and doesn't have any enemies.
"I don't think he deserves this," Susie Gatewood said. "Let's all get along y'all. Lets get along."
The robbery victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
