MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - When it comes to football, Memphis definitely knows how to bring home a win. Four Memphis-area high schools strived for perfection at the state championships and dominated.
Respect the Haven is the term Whitehaven High School students and alumni coined to celebrate the school and its Tiger pride. After its win, the Haven definitely deserves some respect. The WHS Tigers beat Murfreesboro Oakland, winning the 6A State Title.
If that didn't excite you, Trezevant High School's win will. Trezevant played in the 2A Title game against Marion County in a rematch from last year's title tilt. The game was a nail bitter in the fourth quarter. Both teams were tied at 20, but not for long as quarterback Tywon Johnson rushed for an even 200 yards. The Bears beat Marion County 42-20, bringing home the 2A State Championship title.
Enter East High School as they took on Knoxville Central. The Mustangs definitely put in some work. In the third quarter, Mustangs' Justin Lynn passed the ball off to Tarique Barnes, who got two outstanding blocks and brought it home. The Mustangs headed back to Memphis as the 4A State champions.
Last, but certainly not least, Lausanne Collegiate School wins its first ever state championship.
This is was a big win for the Bluff City. Memphians definitely showed their love and support.
Memphians were so excited, they wondered why the city hasn't thrown a parade.
If there was a time to celebrate, it's now. Congratulations to all four teams. You are awesome!
